Broadband situation #3

Ok, so after some advice (in response to my previous blog post) from Dean, one of the guys I used to work with at iiNet, I am now on the phone to Telstra Reachout, to get mum’s phone number back from iPrimus.

iPrimus have “up to 16 days” to hand the number back, and the total service switch should take no longer than “16 to 21 days” then the EvilHouse broadband situation will start to improve rapidly (read: I can move my iiNet connection on to this number).

Now to sit and wait.
I wonder if 4gb on my 3G USB modem is enough.

Broadband situation #2

Mum’s internet and phone were both with iPrimus, on one of their ULL services.

iPrimus wouldn’t talk to me, even though I had /all/ of mum’s details, so using her password, I logged in to the online toolbox, added myself as an authority on the account, and then phoned back and cancelled the ADSL service.

That still leaves me with a problem with regards to the ULL-based phone service.
This morning I faxed them the change of owner documentation, along with a certificate of mum’s death, and phoned back not long ago.

The change of ownership is now being processed, but they told me that they can not reverse-churn me back to a Telstra-based phoneline, and I would have to stay on their ULL service, or go become a Telstra customer.

My secret contact at iiNet will be phoning shortly to talk to me about my options, perhaps we can churn the phone directly to iiNet. I don’t remember, it’s been too long since I worked there, and honestly, I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff with the trauma of mum’s sudden death.

XR6 detailing

Yesterday I dropped the XR6 off at the hand carwash next to Liverpool Markets, and had them do a full detail as well as leather treatment for the seats.

Mum would be proud. She loved this car so much, especially the time I washed it.

Now that it’s been detailed, it looks practically showroom.
There are a couple od imperfections, but I’ll be having those looked at at some point.

The next thing on my list is the rubber boot mat, to protect the boot from dirt/damage due to the floury mix that I carry every week. The boot got pretty messy, and they did a decent job making it look as good as they could.

The car was dropped off at 7am, and when I returned at 5pm, it was still receiving the finishing touches (getting rid of dried polish in the cracks, a final wipe-over with a cloth, etc).

I can’t believe this is the same car.

XR6 Turbo servicing

In a move that’s probably overdue, I decided it was time to spend a bit of money on the XR6, as I’d rather like to keep it for a while (seeing it won’t be paid off for another four years).

Last week I had the car serviced, and a safety check done.
They suggested that I should get the gearbox serviced, and one of the bushes on the diff carrier replaced.

So this week I had the gearbox serviced at D.S Jones Automatics in Seven Hills (Great workshop, I’ve had all my automatic gearboxes serviced/replaced there).

The backlit power window switches have been fitted to all the doors except rear passenger-side, and I think I may have misplaced the centre-cap for the wheel that I bought.

More work is planned for next week, including the purchase of a rubber boot mat, to protect the boot carpet from any kinds of spills (poffertjes mix is working its way in to the carpet, and it doesn’t look good, so I’ll have it cleaned, then put in the boot mat).

Power window switches

The power window switch for the drivers window stopped working a few weeks ago, so today I stopped by Macarthur Auto Parts at Narellan and picked up a set of the illuminated switches from the GT.

I’ve only fitted the switchbank in the drivers door so far, which means my window now works. I’ll fit the others later.

While I was there I also picked up a centrecap for the right-front wheel, which was missing when I bought the car.

Seeing I haven’t eaten all day, and Maccas is just around the corner, I’m off to get some food.

Moving house

With many thanks to Nathan for lending me a trailer, Mark for picking it up for me and Adam for helping load and unload, I’ve now got most of my loungeroom and bedroom stuff moved to mum’s.

The work fridge is now sitting in the garage also. Another load, and I should be out if the old house, then it’s the garage left to go. While it might sound easy, there is so much stuff in the garage it’s not funny.

Adam, WauloK and I are now sitting down fir some Chinese food, then we’ll head home where I have to start getting things ready for work tomorrow.

Electricity

Everything that I have had to do since mum’s death has been horribly difficult. From getting up of a morning, to eating, to making arrangements for bills or services.

Everything except the electricity.

I phoned Origin Energy, and told them that mum had passed away, at which point they became very cooperative.
Electricity for the house is now in my name.

Services: 5
EvilHouse: 1

Broadband situation

It looks like mum had a 1gb/month plan for her broadband, which was demolished in two days of web browsing. Being shaped is not fun.

Seeing that I do not have the certificate of mum’s death yet, I couldn’t do anything to move my iiNet connection over.

There had to be a way, so I logged in to her toolbox, and added myself as an authority on the account, then phoned them back and upgraded the broadband plan.

It is nothing more than a temporary solution, until I get the certificate, and I can change ownership of the phoneline, then port it right to iiNet, then move my broadband over from EvilHouse(3).

So for now, shaping is gone, and sync speed is up to 8mbit (apparently the line length is 3000 metres, not 800 like I thought it would be).

Foxtel technical problems

Having moved in to EvilHouse(4) around a week ago, getting the Foxtel moved over was no more troublesome than a phone-call. The technician appeared on the next business day, I was extremely impressed.

That said, WauloK and I did not find out until that night that we had some issues on the downstairs cable box.

  • Sci Fi channel is distorted to the point of not being watchable.
  • None of the free-to-air channels work.

So now I’m sitting at home, waiting for the cable TV repairmain to arrive, and fix the problem with our downstairs Foxtel box.

New EvilHouse website.

I have no idea how many incarnations there have been of the EvilHouse website.

We’ll call this one number 7. I always liked the number 7.

This time around, I’ve decided to go a bit bloggy, as my new flatmate, WauloK, and I both operate blogs on our own sites, and I hope to somehow get everything working together.

Theme and content haven’t been decided on just yet. I’m sure that they will be seen to soon.
